Winter, Fifty-first Street He walked down the curb. Leaves crackled underfoot, as each step moved the earth beneath black-polished leather shoes. From above, the shade of the grand oaks kept light from descending below en mass. Limbs covered in dark browns, deep reds, golden yellows, and here and there, a touch of emerald green filtered out what clouded sky above could not. A soft wind flowed in, chilly, as the figure tap, tap, taped down the road before it. Fitted into the shoes were a pair of stockinged feet: black wool covering all the way to the man's shins.
